Gladys Werner

In the midst of the 2008 Olympic Games, the Pigeon Club salutes the lovely Gladys 'Skeeter' Werner.
Born in Steamboat Spring's Colorado, Glady's began skiing at a young age.  As a result of her
dedication and her natural pigeon-toed stance, she led the U.S. Ski team in the 1956 Winter
Olympics in
Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.  Glady's thrived in a family of athletes.
Her siblings Buddy and Loris were also Olympic skiiers. She created a life for herself in her
hometown of Steamboat Springs, Colorado wth her husband NFL running back Doak Walker
and opened the popular Steamboat Ski school.

Moises Alou

The New York Met Moises Alou has one of the most well known batting stances in Major League Baseball.
The fact that Alou is the oldest player currently under contract for any MLB team stands to prove that his
knock-kneed pigeon-toed stance is extremely effective.   Another one of Alou's eccentricities is the fact that
he is one of very few players in the major league that refuses to wear batting gloves.  Alou prefers to urinate
on his own hands in order to alleviate callouses.  (insert phrase such as: "whatever floats your boat" etc.)

Abby Jenne

Abby Jenne is pigeon-toed.
Abby was born in Exeter, NH.
She started playing piano when she was 5, cello at 9, and guitar at 14
and has been performing in front of others since she can remember.
Since then, she has starred in musicals, played in coffee houses, dropped out of school,
waited tables, played on street corners and parking lots and at bars all over the country.

After moving to Vermont in 1996 (completely by accident, house sat for two weeks, got a job, married a native,
formed a band, divorced a redneck, moved to Montpelier) she’s recorded an EP, won WNCS’S open
mike, has had songs featured in two films, has been featured on the Point’s 5’O clock shadow,
and been played on radio stations as far away as Arizona, California, Oregon and China.
She released her debut album "Random Road" in April 2004 which received good reviews
even though a few of the songs were written in twenty minutes or less.

Two little known facts about actress Jessica Alba are that she appeared
on the pilot episode of The Secret World of Alex Mack and was
pigeon toed when she was in high school.

April 2008
Norman Percevel Rockwell

"I'm still about as pigeon-toed as you can get. But I learned to manage pretty well on a bike.
Should have had a bicycle then, when I was a kid, but our family didn't have the
money for such luxuries. I saved up to buy one myself a few years later."

As one of the most celebrated artists in American history, Norman Rockwell referred to himself
as a "people painter."  The models for his art varied from common people to the U.S. Presidents
Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Johnson.  His main outlet to the public was through his
contribution to over 400 covers for The Saturday Evening Post.

February 2008
Mary Flannery O' Connor

The southern gothic writer Flannery O' Connor is self described as a  "pigeon-toed
only child with a receding chin and a you-leave-me-alone-or-I'll-bite-you complex."
When O'Connor was only 5 years old, she taught a chicken to walk backwards.
When a film of the chicken was released, she became a national celebrity.
In 1951 at age 26, Flannery was diagnosed with lupis and retured to the family farm
she grew up on.  During the last 15 years of her life, she raised over 100 peacocks
and many other exotic birds.  Flannery O'Connor's 2 novels and 31 short stories
reference her love of birds.  In her essay titled "The King of Birds", she describes
her deep love for peacocks.  As a beautiful writer and bird loving recluse, we honor
Mary Flannery O' Connor this February for her amazing and inspiring life.

A little known fact about this world champion air guitarist is that his greatest asset
while performing is his pigeon-toed stature.

Charles Edward Anderson "Chuck" Berry

As a pioneer of Rock & Roll music, Chuck Berry's signature duck walk has influenced
many musicians.  It comes as no surprise to the Pigeon Club that as
Rock & Roll was being born, our fine feathered friends had such a
great influence on it.  Watch Chuck Berry's duck walk here.
